What's your background?
Hi, I’m Özgür from Sweden, and l have a background in the restaurant sector (as a business owner) and some as a marketer.
I decided to do something I had back of my mind for years - to learn web development. It’s something magical about being able to create experiences with code.
How did your coding journey look like?
At the beginning of my coding journey, I quickly tripped on Mimo in the App store, and it amazed me how “easy” it was to start learning to code, available on the go. Nice to have together with Youtube, Google, and all the other stuff.
Mimo Dev showed up at a time when I considered seriously leveling up my knowledge or doing nothing with it. I opted for the first option, so it was a no-brainer to apply for Mimo Dev when stumbling into it. Especially since I already trusted Mimo’s way of teaching.
It has been a great experience. With an engaging structure and instructor, I gained more confidence in coding along the road.
What did Mimo Dev help you accomplish? What were the major milestones?
The biggest milestone so far is that I can debug in React by myself. The next milestone is launching my first React project to a client.
I recently got the job of building a website for a friend’s new upcoming restaurant. And just to be clear, I will get paid, let us call it a junior salary, as it’s my first freelance project. You start somewhere.
One thing I learned by studying coding so far is that if you repeat something enough, it will stick in your mind sooner or later.
Any advice for those who are just starting to learn to code?
If I started Mimo Dev again, I would be softer on myself and ask more questions. We learn at different paces, and don’t be afraid of asking.
What are your plans for the future?
We’ll see what the future brings. I’m open to the freelance path but know how challenging that can be, so it might end up that I apply for a job. We’ll see. Whatever happens I decided coding is what I want to do.
